Roxanne Barrington Recast: Why Y&R Brought Devon's Ex Back Now

What Is the Roxanne Barrington Recast on Young and the Restless?

The Roxanne Barrington recast brings actress Tetona Jackson into The Young and the Restless this November 2026, stepping into a role Tatyana Ali originated in 2007 and left behind in 2013. Roxanne returns as Devon Winters' former girlfriend, and her reappearance after thirteen years off-screen marks one of the first visible moves from the show's new writing regime.

No air date, exact storyline details, or length of stay have been confirmed by the network as of this writing, and that gap is deliberate context worth sitting with before assuming where this goes.

Who Was Roxanne Barrington Before She Left Genoa City?

Roxanne Barrington first arrived on The Young and the Restless in September 2007 as a friend of Lily Winters who quickly became romantically entangled with Devon Hamilton, the character later known as Devon Winters. Their relationship was on-again, off-again for years, surviving Devon's affair with his presumed aunt Tyra and reconciling more than once before real cracks formed.

Why Roxanne and Devon Finally Split

The relationship unraveled for good around 2013, after Devon inherited the bulk of Katherine Chancellor's billion-dollar estate. Reporting from that era describes Roxanne growing frustrated with Devon's paranoia about his new wealth, and she eventually left Genoa City rather than continue navigating his suspicion. Tatyana Ali, who originated the role, went on to earn three consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series during her run, a detail TV Insider's casting report highlighted when confirming the character's return.

Who Plays Roxanne Barrington Now? Meet Tetona Jackson

Tetona Jackson is new to daytime television, with prior series regular credits on the CBS comedy Poppa's House and BET's Boomerang, along with a recurring role on Freeform's Good Trouble. Taking over a character this established, with over a decade of real history attached to a different actress, is a different challenge than originating a brand-new role, and it puts immediate pressure on Jackson to make the part her own quickly.

Jackson debuts in November 2026, arriving in Genoa City at the same time as another new character, Dr. Andrew Bishop, played by Fareed Ward, who joins the medical staff at Genoa City Memorial Hospital alongside Nate Hastings and chief of staff Stephanie Simmons.

Why This Recast Signals a Bigger Shift at Y&R

The timing here matters more than the casting itself. Roxanne and Dr. Bishop are the first confirmed castings under new co-head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O'Connor, who replaced longtime head writer Josh Griffith after he stepped down in June 2026. Their first scripts begin airing November 11, which means Roxanne's return functions as an early signal of the creative direction the new writing team intends to take.

Reviving a dormant ex-girlfriend for a currently married lead character is a classic daytime lever, and it tends to mean one of two things: either the new writers want to destabilize an existing relationship, or they are using a familiar face to re-anchor a legacy family story while newer characters find their footing. Devon is currently married to Abby Newman, so Roxanne's reappearance as his ex places an obvious structural tension in front of that marriage almost immediately, whether or not the writers intend to act on it right away.

There's also a practical calculation behind reviving a name instead of inventing one. A recast character arrives with built-in history that longtime viewers already understand, which lets new writers skip the slow setup a brand-new character would require and jump straight into conflict. That efficiency is valuable for a new writing team trying to make an immediate impression within its first weeks on the job.

How the Roxanne Recast Fits Into the New Writers' Larger Plans

Giddens brings experience from Days of Our Lives and Beyond the Gates, where he was Daytime Emmy-nominated this year for Outstanding Writing Team, and he also co-created the primetime drama Ambitions. O'Connor's background runs through One Life to Live and General Hospital, where he worked as associate head writer and breakdown writer, with his most recent daytime work on Days of Our Lives.

That combined resume suggests a writing team comfortable blending legacy-family plotting with faster-paced reveals, a style both soaps are known for. Giddens has also teased upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes on social media, which points to a holiday stretch built around family-centered stories, a natural landing spot for a reintroduced ex-girlfriend with unfinished business.

Confirmed Versus Speculation: What We Actually Know

Confirmed facts include Jackson's casting as Roxanne Barrington, Ward's casting as Dr. Andrew Bishop, a November 2026 debut window for both, and the November 11 start date for Giddens and O'Connor's material as head writers. These details come directly from TV Insider's exclusive casting report.

What remains speculation: whether Roxanne's return threatens Devon and Abby's marriage, how long Jackson will stay in the role, and whether Roxanne's storyline connects to the new doctor character at all. Our read is that a crossing storyline between Roxanne and Dr. Bishop is plausible given their simultaneous debuts, but nothing on record confirms that link yet.

What to Watch For as Roxanne Returns to Genoa City

Viewers tracking Devon's storyline should watch how quickly the show reveals why Roxanne is back after thirteen years away, since that explanation will likely set the tone for whether this is a short guest arc or a long-term reintegration into the canvas. The timing alongside a brand-new writing regime makes this recast worth following into December, since the first few weeks of a new writing team's material often reveal their priorities for the year ahead.
