EastEnders confirms return of popular series for anniversary week

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has confirmed the return of a popular documentary series, to preview the explosive storylines taking place in the show’s 40th anniversary week.

EastEnders Revealed is a series which aired regularly during the 1990s and 2000s, with episodes taking a deep dive into popular characters and storylines in the show.

BBC Three has been the home of documentaries about major events in the soap since 2006, with the most recent being EastEnders: The Six, a two-part documentary hosted by Joe Swash to coincide with the gripping Christmas 2023 storyline.

Now Swash – who briefly reprised his role of Mickey Miller late last year – is back to host EastEnders Revealed: The Lock-In, a 45-minute special which will air on BBC Three during the soap’s big anniversary week.

There will be behind-the-scenes insights into stories including Cindy’s attacker reveal and Denise, Ravi and Jack’s interactive love triangle.

Plus, Swash will chat to actors including Jacqueline Jossa, Natalie Cassidy and Patsy Palmer – who are all directly involved in the exciting live episode on Thursday, February 20. The actors will give exclusive details about the dramatic week and share their own theories.

The special will also include a musical performance from a well-known EastEnders superfan, with their identity remaining under wraps for now.

Swash said in a statement: “It was a privilege to take another trip back to Walford to reunite with my EastEnders family ahead of the 40th anniversary.

“I won’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it for the viewers, but the week is full of explosive drama, and it was great to hear from the cast themselves about what we can expect from the week.”

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw added: “The 40th anniversary is a monumental occasion for EastEnders, and since we started announcing some of our plans, we have seen an overwhelming amount of speculation around possible theories of what’s to come in the anniversary week.

“This anniversary special show will give the audience a chance to hear from the actors involved in some of those explosive storylines as they share their thoughts and feelings of being involved in its historic milestone.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
