EastEnders has aired a surprise development in Phil Mitchell’s harrowing mental health storyline.
In tonight’s episode, Phil hired newcomer Amelia, who’s a sex worker. The two connected before he tried to take his own life, with her giving him his card.
Despite Phil lying to his loved ones and telling them his suicide attempt was an accident, Sharon Watts was concerned for his safety and paid him a visit
“You don’t seem fine, Phil,” she said, but he pushed her away.
“Just go away and leave me alone,” he hit back.
Determined not to give up on her ex-husband, Sharon returned to Phil’s house but was taken aback when she realised he wasn’t alone.
“Don’t worry too much about it, it happens to loads of men, especially ones your age,” Sharon heard Amelia say from the other room.
When the couple emerged from the bedroom, Phil bluntly asked Sharon what she was doing at his place.
“I came to forgive you,” she said, right before Phil took out his wallet to pay Amelia for her services.
Earlier this week, Phil rejected his friends’ help but was seen speaking openly about his feelings to an unseen person. It was later revealed that he was talking to himself and was potentially hallucinating.
EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
