The Thai-Burma Railway, also referred to as the Death Railway, is a historic railway linking Ban Pong, Thailand and Thanbyuzayat, Burma.

The railway was comprised of 63 distinct stations at the time. The majority of them have been demolished through the years.

A bridge is typically constructed out of stone and metal.

But because of the dearth of materials in the area, the Japanese army forced their workers to build the bridge using wood.

They were required to construct the bridge by hand along with a few basic tools. This is why the Thai-Burma railroad looks distinctive!

In 1957, the Academy Award winning movie 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' brought this bridge to the forefront of film and television all over the world.
